THE URBAN DREAM

Water dropped down my eyes
As her eyes had a date with tears
It’s me finding purpose at the city
But it’s her losing her only son to urban life

I’ve heard about big houses and exotic cars
She has been told stories of ghastly accidents
The tales of hardworking becoming wealthy hugged my ears
Story of lazy ones robbing suburbs she shares

A lot is taking me to the city
Much beyond her pity
Being a mummy’s boy is one
Exploits and Exposure are others

I couldn’t believe I’d be leaving mum so soon
I looked back to share my last smile
Albeit it was the last
Because she had fallen

I still left but with no one to tell ‘goodbye’.
